What is the added value of the SMART Congressional initiative?
SMART integrates Mid-Atlantic Science and Technology advocacy among senior leaders from all elements of public and private sectors with the grass-roots technical community to increase our global competitiveness.
What makes SMART unique?
SMART’s all-inclusive infrastructure of formal public and private support and participation is unique. The SMART elements include Congress, the Federal Executive Branch, our International Allies, the DE, MD, NJ and PA State Governments (Executive and Legislative Branches) and the regional, grass-roots tech community of academia, industry, government labs/field agencies and professional associations.
What is the difference between the SMART Caucus, the States and the SMART NFP?
The SMART Caucus is the inspiration behind regional collaboration for the mutual benefits of the entire region, providing strategic guidance. The States have been invited to also provide the strategic direction and technical priorities, in conjunction with the Caucus. The SMART NFP is the membership company of the regional technical community that executes the tactical activities of this regional vision, led by our Major Industry membership.
What are the primary products of SMART?
SMART products are a platform for case studies on issues, networking, events and projects. SMART accomplishes these via our general activities and those of our 14 Technology Groups.
How is SMART funded? Are public funds used?
SMART is funded by membership fees. There are no current plans for public funding appropriations for the administration of SMART, a change from past planning.
What options do I have for joining SMART?
SMART’s membership fees are based upon the number of employees of the applicants affiliation (academia, industry or government lab/agency). Professional associations are invited to trade reciprocal, no cost memberships. Contact Bob Carullo at bcarullo@smartstates.com or 609-304-2904.
What can I expect as a member of SMART?
SMART’s primary benefit is access to senior level decision makers and networking for business development. SMART’s infrastructure of support can provide you a platform to address your issues that are impeding your progress or could accelerate your progress. SMART can recommend collaborative partners. SMART’s events offer you the opportunity speak, exhibit and network. SMART can assist the business development of your projects and/or help you start a SMART project. Finally SMART can assist with your Education / Workforce Development requirements.
How do I become more active as a SMART member?
Contact Executive Director Bob Carullo at bcarullo@smartstates.com or 609-304-2904 and he will put you in contact with the appropriate Tech Group Chair, Event Committee, Project Team or one of our members and/or discuss your leadership of a SMART activity.
Please note that SMART is the typical organization that is only as active as our membership. SMART simply provides the regional technical community and our Federal and State governments the infrastructure to move forward with value added activities that increase our global competitiveness.
