Keynote and Gov’t Participation Leader: US DHS Office of S&T, Michael Smith
What: SMART will continue its’ series of 4 local regional HLS reviews of government requirements & standards followed by the tech community’s reaction with cutting edge technologies. This series will be conducted with the US DHS, Office of S&T, Mid-Atlantic Liaison, Michael Smith as the lunch keynote and the lead for the government for each. Mitchell Erickson, NE Liaison, will also join us.
Why: Purpose is to facilitate efficient regional HLS collaboration among:
- Congress
- US DHS and related fed agencies w/ HLS roles
- States & Local Gov’t (both Exec Branch HQs & Legislative Branch)
- Tech Community
-- Academia
-- Industry
-- Gov’t Labs/Field Agencies (non-HQs)
-- Organizations
This series of local events will then be able to be rolled up to both US DHS and SMART annual events.
Why yet another HLS event: SMART’s uniqueness is our formal infrastructure among the above elements which can facilitate participation by all elements.
How: Each of the four reviews will be conducted in two separate parts with the Gov’t & Tech Community (academia & industry) reversing presenting & audience roles. Presenters will be based upon responses to a call for papers.
- The first part will be an AM, all gov’t meeting (all levels) to review of Gov’t Requirements & Standards.
Academia & Industry will be invited to the lunch & PM session that will report on the AM session.
- During the PM session, Academia & Industry will brief on cutting edge tech solutions.
- Exhibit & Networking Reception will follow.
Where: The reviews will be held in:
- Phila, the Greater Delaware Valley (includes all of SJ & Northern DE)
- Baltimore, the Greater Chesapeake region
- Pittsburgh or Johnstown, Appalachia region (includes WV)
- TBD, North Jersey/NYC Metro (note that our 1st event was hosted by Picatinny Arsenal).
Who: This series is open to all and each local event will seek local collaboration and co-sponsorship. Participants will be listed on our website as the events firm.
