The SMART regional S&T initiative is a Congressional initiative to regionalize S&T advocacy across all technology topics and disciplines within the Mid-Atlantic region.
Mission: The SMART initiative is the integration of regional Science & Technology activities for issues, events & projects among the SMART Congressional Caucus (8 Senators and 41 Representatives), the Federal Executive Branch DC HQs, our International Allies, the four State governments (Executive & Legislative branches of DE, MD, NJ & PA) and the regional technical community facilitated by SMART, a Not For Profit (NFP) company.
To administer this vision, the Congressional and State efforts include creating the nation's first legislated, interstate, regional S&T Authority that would replace the temporary SMART NFP membership company.
The current SMART membership company was formed to execute the vision of the initiative and transition into the inter-state Authority. SMART membership is composed of academia, businesses, government labs/field agencies and organizations. While the Governors will oversee the Authority via the Board, the SMART membership will continue to execute the daily actions, focused by technology groups.
